
Aizawl, the capital city of Mizoram, is a beautiful, dazzling hilltop city. Along with this, it offers a fantastic blend of culture, history & stunning hill views.
The word “Aizawl” means “a field of wild cardamom”, a name that originated during the days of the great Mizo Chiefs Lal Saving & Thanruma, who established villages in and around the present site of Raj Bhawan in the early 19th Century.
This city is also the third-largest city in North East India. The city is not only located north of the Tropic of Cancer in the northern part of Mizoram, but also situated at the ridge of steep hills of 1132 mt (3715 ft) above sea level.
Aizawl is an ethereal place with the Thawing River valley at its west & the Trial River valley at its east. This lively & bustling city is definitely enchanting & worth visiting.
Best time to visit Aizawl
The best time to visit Aizawl is from October to March, as the weather is pleasant and the city experiences its winter season, which makes it comfortable to explore the city.
A three-day visit to Aizawl can be soul-touching and a different experience altogether, covering mesmerising hill view sights and their cultural heritage.
Travel
Arrive in Aizawl in two ways :
1st is airways: Take a flight to Aizawl and land in Lengpui Airport of Aizawl, which is approximately 32km away from the city. After that, take any vehicle to reach the city.
2nd is railways: Bairabi is the only railway station in Mizoram, but it is located about 90 km from Aizawl. Details of train travelling to Aizawl are :
- Delhi- Sairang- a weekly Rajdhani express travels from Anand Vihar terminal (Delhi ) to Sairang (Mizoram).
- Sailing – Kolkata Express – Runs 3 times a week from Kolkata to Mizoram
- Guwahati to Mizoram- A Daily train from Guwahati to Mizoram is there, and it takes around 13.5 hours to reach Mizoram from Guwahati.
- It is also very well connected to Silchar in Assam.

National borders are in the north & west of Mizoram with :

- Manipur
International borders are in the west, east and south of Mizoram with
- Bangladesh
- Myanmar

Let’s begin the journey.
Day 1
Start the journey with the Aizawl city exploration. Here first visit to
Mizoram State Museum:- It is situated in the middle of Aizawl city, which was constructed in 1977. It has preserved the Mizo cultural heritage & a variety of wildlife specimens & tribal weapons. It is known as an informative centre for the many cultural & traditional histories of Mizoram.
Note: Entry fee is there for adults & and also for children. Sunday is closed
Next, head towards the symbol of love & sacrifice of Mizoram.
Phulpui Grave: The grave at Phulpui Grave in Aizawl gets its name from Tualvungi & Zawlpala- two lovers who sacrificed their lives and were buried in the grave. It is a tragic tale of love and sacrifice associated with these graves. On the other side, the scenic beauty from Phulpuigrave is breathtaking as green mountains are everywhere here, all around feels like an enchanting mind in heaven.
From the graves move towards the mausoleum named.
KV Paradise: It is also known as “the modern Taj Mahal of Aizawl” This monument is a symbol of a man’s love for his wife, who died in a car accident. The mausoleum is named after their initials, KV Paradise. It is also on a beautiful hill slope facing Aizawl city.
Have local food for lunch, which is delicious and visit the city’s hilltop
Durtling Hill: It is a city hilltop viewpoint where a 360-degree magnificent view of Aizawl city is seen, which will stun everyone with its charming look. Especially a night view of the city is mind mind-blowing experience as the city glitters like a shining Diamond all around the hill. This breathtaking view will make you fall in love with Aizawl all over again and again.
In the late evening, explore the local markets of Aizawl for shopping and for local cuisines.
Bara Bazar: Visit Bara Bazar for the local market shopping of traditional Mizo handicrafts & souvenirs. This market has many shops for buying bamboo & other handicrafts products, gifts from Mizoram.
Day 2
Start your day with a spiritual experience visit.
Solomon’s Temple: This temple was constructed by the religious local group Kohhran Thianghlim, translated as “the holy Church “ in English. This is the biggest church in Aizawl, which is located in a Kidron valley. This stunning architecture & magnificent structure are made up of white marble. It has now become a popular tourist spot in Aizawl for its jaw-dropping structure.
Now, travel a little far from Aizawl city for a beautiful hilly village view and trek.
Reiek Tlang Village & Reiek Peak: Reiek is the most beautiful mountain village of Mizoram, which is approximately 29km from Aizawl. It offers a fantastic viewpoint offering panoramic views of Aizawl & surrounding valley points against a backdrop of Mizo Hills Scenery. These majestic mountains offer breathtaking views, diverse flora & fauna, with a serene atmosphere, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers.
Later evening visit to Luangmual handicraft centre for exploring the variety of handicrafts of the local people of Mizoram, and spent some good time here.

Day 3
Get ready for a mountain adventure and start early to head towards Champai.
Champai: Nearly 200km from Aizawl, it is the. 3 rd third-largest town in Mizoram, and it is the oldest settlement founded by the Mizo People that initially served as the capital for the Hmar Dynasty. It has a majestic hill view in the village, which captivates the mind forever. It is located at the Indo-Myanmar border, facilitates cross-border trade & serves as a hub for trade & commerce in this region. Nearly 5 km away from Champai is the Ruantlang village, where glimpses of the ancestral way of life of the Mizoram can also be seen.
Spend the day here in Champai and refresh your mind for a lifetime. Stay at Champai overnight and move to Aizawl the next day for the return.
